Casino Crime Roundup: Robbers Mistakenly Steal Dinner Leftovers Rather Than $130K Jackpot
A suspect in a robbery plot that focused on two elderly casino winners last February was recently apprehended, while his supposed partners in crime remain at large after they allegedly took a bag filled with steak and lobster instead of the $130K in cash the couple won at an Illinois gaming venue.
The victims were pursued from the Rivers Casino Des Plaines to their home in Fox Lake, Ill. on February 10.
When the victims arrived at their residence, located approximately 38 miles from the gaming site, one of the thieves drew a handgun and snatched a paper bag from the male victim, who was shoved to the ground, as reported by the Lake and McHenry County Scanner. The robbers quickly fled before entering a nearby car.
However, the suspects did not check the contents of the bag. The woman who was victimized had stored the money in her walker, whereas the bag taken by the thieves held uneaten food.
Law enforcement was notified, and upon discovering the license plate number of the escape vehicle, identified the two perpetrators.
Michael Britton, 27, from Chicago, was taken into custody on August 28. According to the Fox Lake Police Department, he faced charges for armed robbery, aggravated robbery, and robbery involving a victim aged over 60.
"The defendants made off with her leftover steak and lobster as opposed to the $130,000,” Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Theis was quoted this week by the Scanner.
When Britton faced the court recently, Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak remarked about the victims, “I suppose in their own way, [they] outwitted the evildoers.”
Authorities are still searching for the second suspect, Aramie Kent from Maywood, Ill. A warrant for his arrest was signed by a judge. According to police, a third suspect interacted with the couple at the casino and was involved in the robbery plot. She is also on the run.

A woman lost consciousness and a man was threatened with a knife during an assault at the Tropicana Atlantic City on Sunday.
The woman who was attacked suffered kicks and punches to the head in the altercation. There is no new information regarding her present medical status.

Diaz faced charges of simple assault, whereas Pineryo was charged with unlawful weapon possession, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and making terroristic threats.
The event started in the Quarter, an area of the casino featuring dining and shopping venues.
The cause of the fight was not known right away. According to the Daily Voice, it remains uncertain whether others implicated will face charges.
