Casino Crime Roundup: Tennessee Business Raided for Illegal Gambling
A Tennessee convenience store owner was apprehended on Friday following a police investigation into unlawful gambling activities at the establishment.
The accused, Nimit Patel, 40, faced charges for reportedly compensating game victors with merchandise, then swapping the winning tickets for cash through an intermediary, as stated by officers with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.
Patel faced charges for promoting gambling, aggravated promotion of gambling, possessing a gambling device or record, and resisting or obstructing a legal process or writ. He was arrested at the Crockett County jail, and his case was handed over to local prosecutors.
Police reported that during the raid, officers confiscated $4,208, two gambling devices, ledgers, and payout records.
The establishment was recognized as “The Country Store,” which is also referred to as “E & T Gas” in Gadsden, Tennessee, as reported by Tennessee TV station WBBJ.
Authorities received information regarding potential unlawful conduct occurring at the establishment, which prompted an inquiry by undercover agents who collected sufficient proof for a search warrant to be authorized by a nearby judge.
Vehicle Taken from Casino Parking Area
A Nissan Altima car was taken from Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington on Friday afternoon.
According to a statement from Delaware State Police, state troopers apprehended 28-year-old Breana Brooks of Dover for stealing a motor vehicle.
Brooks supposedly took the car keys from a woman's jacket pocket in the casino. The victim had placed her jacket next to a slot machine. The jacket's owner was not close to it when the keys were taken.
Brooks subsequently entered the parking lot and ultimately matched the keys to the Nissan that was abandoned there, according to police.
State troopers identified Brooks as the suspect by examining security footage from the casino.
Brooks was seen in the stolen vehicle on Saturday prior to being apprehended by officers from the Dover Police Department. She was taken into custody at Delaware's Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution, where her bail was established at $2,000.
The police did not disclose the reason why Brooks reportedly took the car.
