Man Made Coachella Bomb Threat at Area Casino
The individual detained for threatening to bomb the Coachella Music & Arts Festival on Saturday was caught with help from security personnel at the Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City, California. The police were informed by the guards that a man in a Tesla approached them and claimed he would “take responsibility for a bombing” at the festival, located roughly 17 miles away at the Empire Polo Club.
Using DMV records, Cathedral City police determined the vehicle’s owner to be Davis Darvish, a 40-year-old from Santa Monica, and initiated a search for his car.
Investigators utilized Flock ALPR automated license plate recognition cameras to monitor the vehicle's path through the Coachella Valley, finding it in Palm Springs in under an hour.
Darvish was taken into custody at 12:11 p.m. On Saturday, the investigation was returned to Cathedral City police by Palm Springs authorities. A search of Darvish’s car found no weapons, explosives, or materials for making bombs.
Darvish has been accused of making bomb threats and is currently in custody at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, California, with a bail set at $1 million.
Coachella occurs for six days across two back-to-back weekends each April and usually attracts 125,000 visitors daily.
The Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City is the latest of the three gaming venues owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. Launched in November 2020, it became part of the Tribe's sites in Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. The 13-acre estate features a 38,000 square-foot gaming area.
